Choosing the Right Scope Torch Mount
If you use a night vision device, infrared (IR) illumination is essential when operating in low-light or total darkness. While some night vision scopes include a built-in IR illuminator, many—particularly traditional tube-style night vision scopes—do not.
In these cases, an external IR torch is required to illuminate the scene and provide a clear, usable image. To fit that torch correctly and ensure the beam aligns with your view, an IR torch mount is essential.
Why an IR Torch Mount Matters
An IR torch mount securely attaches an IR illuminator to your night vision setup and allows for precise horizontal and vertical adjustment. This adjustment is critical for correctly aligning the IR beam with the scope’s optical axis.
Without a proper torch mount:
The IR beam may sit off-centre
Illumination can appear uneven or vignetted
Tighter beams can clip the field of view or cause glare
A quality mount allows the beam to be perfectly centralised, which is especially important when using focused or long-range IR torches.

How Are IR Torch Mounts Fitted?
Some night vision scopes feature a built-in Picatinny rail, allowing an IR torch mount to clamp directly onto the scope body.
However, many tube-style digital and traditional night vision scopes do not include any mounting points as standard. In these cases, a Picatinny accessory rail is fitted to the scope, creating a solid mounting interface for the torch mount.
Once fitted, the torch mount clamps to the rail and holds the IR torch firmly in position, while still allowing full alignment adjustment.
This modular setup gives flexibility in:
Torch position (top-mounted or side-mounted)
Mount height
Fixed or quick-detach mounting options
What IR Torch Mount Do I Need?
This is one of the most common questions we’re asked, and the answer depends on your scope design and accessory layout.
Torch Mount Height
Some tube-style night vision scopes feature external laser rangefinder (LRF) modules mounted on top of the scope. In these cases, a high torch mount is usually required if the torch is being fitted above the scope, as it must clear the LRF housing.
If the torch is side-mounted, a lower torch mount can often be used, as there is no need to clear top-mounted accessories. Side mounting can also help keep the overall setup lower and more streamlined.
Fixed vs Quick-Detach Torch Mounts
Another consideration is how the mount secures to the Picatinny rail.
Fixed mounts use a manual thumbscrew and provide a simple, robust attachment
Quick-detach mounts use a lever-style clamp, allowing fast removal or repositioning without tools
Quick-detach mounts are popular with users who regularly remove their torch for transport or swap between setups.
Choosing the Right IR Torch Mount Setup
There is no single “best” IR torch mount—only the right mount for your scope and intended use.
Factors to consider include:
Scope type (tube-style or digital)
Presence of an LRF module
Preferred torch position (top or side)
Whether you want quick removal or a fixed fit
Below are the IR torch mount options we offer, suitable for a wide range of night vision setups.
IR Torch Mount Options Available
High IR Torch Mount
Best suited for tube-style night vision scopes with top-mounted LRF modules, providing the clearance needed for correct torch positioning.
Low IR Torch Mount
Ideal for side-mounted torch setups or scopes without top-mounted accessories, offering a lower-profile solution.
Quick Detach IR Torch Mount
Features a lever-style clamp for fast fitting and removal without tools—perfect for users who regularly change setups.
